OMR racers enter "Runoffs"

Post by Ted Wells » Wed Oct 01, 2008 1:06 pm

Among the 515 entries at this year's SCCA "Runoffs" - the Club's national championship road racing event - are Steve Dreizler, Sam Henry, Loren Moore, Keith Maloney and Chris Brannon. The "Runoffs" officially begin Monday, Oct. 6, with four days of practice/qualifying which are followed by three days (Friday-Sunday, Oct. 10-12) of races for SCCA's 25 national classes. The event is run at the 2.5 mi. Heartland Park road course just south of Forbes Field on the south side of Topeka, KS.

For ticket info, go to www.HPT.com

For schedule info, go to www.SCCA.com then click on "Club Racing" and then click on "Runoffs"

There are 38 entries for Friday afternoon's (2:15 PM) Formula Vee race where Steve Dreizler, Shell Knob, MO, will take the green flag in his #04 Vortech single-seater. Steve finished second in the Midwest Division national points standings, and SportsCar magazine (Oct. issue, pg. 33) picks him for a podium finish. He's the current FV lap record holder at Topeka.

Sam Henry, Republic, MO, takes to the track at 3:15 PM Friday for the Spec Miata national championship race. Sam raced his yellow #37 Miata to second place in the divisional standings and will join 27 other drivers - quite a few less than last year - in the SM "Runoffs" contest.

Loren Moore, Nixa, MO, has been picked for a podium finish (SportsCar, Oct. '08, pg. 40) in H Production where he will race one of his MG Midgets against 18 other entrants. The race is scheduled for 2:15 PM Saturday, Oct. 11, and Loren will be driving #75 with either a black or yellow (don't know which) paint job. Loren was the Midwest Division National Champion in HP this season.

At 4:15 PM Saturday, Loren returns to the track for the GT Lites contest in the second of his Midgets...also #75 and also either black or yellow (I can't keep them separate in my mind.) He will join 21 other GTL entrants including Keith Maloney, Parsons, KS, who will be driving his blue & white #43 Honda CRX...a "real" GTL car. Keith was 7th at the '07 "Runoffs." SportsCar (Oct. issue, pg. 42) picks Loren to make the podium a second time in his former F Production Midget, but Keith and the "regular" GTL racers will have something to say about that. Keith also got a mention in SportsCar...let's hope that's just what he needs to propel him to the front of the pack.

Chris Brannon, Mountain Home, AR, reportedly is well on his way in recovering from injuries suffered in a recent motorcycle accident and plans to be driving at Heartland Park next week. Chris will be competing in A Sedan with his red #02 Pontiac GTO. The AS race is scheduled for 10:45 AM Sunday morning and has drawn 24 entrants.
