Motel discount

Post by stanbell » Tue Dec 29, 2009 11:30 am

The best western big spring lodge is offering a $59/night rate. ask for Diane when booking, 417 455 2300, or request "evo school", "OMR", or "SCCA" rate.

best western normal rate is 69.99, or AAA/AARP 62.99. they have a hot breakfast buffet included, eggs/sausage/waffles as well as regular continental, cold cereal fare.

super8 is 45/night, but was not the least interested in offering us a discount. they even proposed a rate higher than their online rate, which i found mildly annoying. so stay somewhere else, just to spite them, on my behalf. :)

i did not find an scca discount rate for any of the local hotels. motel 6, holiday inn, and choice hotels (comfort, quality, econolodge, clarion, sleep, rodeway), some of which are in joplin, offer scca discounts.

Erm.... not all of us can qualify for such rates Stan. :D

I shall stick it to the Super 8 by... ummm... driving home Saturday night and sleeping in my own bed.

(~120 mile round trip x ~14 mpg x ~$2.40 / gallon = profit.... I think)

(i was pointing out the aarp for some of our senior members. i'm not actually qualified myself, which should be obvious to any casual observer.)

*****EDIT***** I left the fields blank and to my surprise, it still signed me up. So now I have to wait until the end of March? Thats going to be a loooooong time to wait and think. Anyways, anyone have any ideas on an RV being parked there? Contact the College? EPDS wouldn't have any say would they?*****EDIT*****

So I'm a noob and went to sign up for the Phase 1 on Saturday. I'm getting asked for my Car# and Class. I'm pretty sure of my Class, but no clue of the number since I'm new. Do these need to be filled in? I'm going to try and take these questions to the meeting tomorrow since I'm sure they can be answered, but it depends on how the roads are out here in the boondox of Kirbyville.

Also, anyone have any ideas on whether or not there would be a problem with a 30 foot RV staying in the Crowder parking lot Friday and possibly Saturday night?

Daniel - if they've got a problem with it, I'm just ~20-min South of there and right off the highway (US71) with a section of asphalt that will fit that RV, no problem. (my Father-in-Law parks a tractor-trailer there sometimes)

Gratis, of course.

Sorry Daniel, I know the RV cannot be on the lot overnight.

I have seen some RV sites on 71 just South of Neosho, but am sure there will be some right in town as well. Hwy 71 is a tourist travel route.

Great to know you'll be there all weekend.

Last year at our divisional we had a couple of competitors stay in a RV about a block away near the classroom building. No RV hookups, but they have the space.

Thanks for the info guys. I will check into some local places and check prices. If the arm and leg aren't enough to cover it, then Scott I may be pullin in. Maybe for "stanbell" I will stay in the Super8 parking lot and dump directly onto it.

Tried to get to the meeting tonight, but the RWD Beemer was not interested in getting me out of the driveway. Dynamic Stability Control my a**!

Scott,

Really neat piece of video--gave me something to think about. Also gave me a greater appreciation of the Evo School.

Sky, re the enrollment...pm me or call 840 2286 and i'll help make sure you're signed up properly, if you're concerned.

and you can leave the # out (or make up your own number, as long as it's not 34 you're in business) :)

current enrollment

Post by stanbell » Tue Jan 19, 2010 4:42 pm

FYI all, we're up to 14 enrolled in saturday phase 1, 1 in phase 2. 4 enrolled in sunday p1, 9 in p2.

if you know anyone in any of the surrounding regions who might be interested, now would be a good time to do a little selling.

ideally, we'd like to hit 6 for saturday p2, 6 for sunday p1, and 12 for sunday p2.

saturday p1 is full enough, actually slightly over. premature to worry about it, but if you're doing saturday p1 only, you might consider whether you could move to sunday. 12 is our ideal class size.

I have winter tires on my car currently.
I am considering attending the EVO event in March. Any advice on tire choices in this region during end of March? Would I be ok in switching back to summer tires(PS2) for the EVO event?

A high-end Summer tire is the usual pick for an Evo school. Something that will be relatively sharp-performing, but durable is what you want. A lot of people run on Summer tires like Kumho XS, Falken Azenis, Bridgestone RE-11, and similar. Pilot PS2's are probably right up that alley.

You can expect 30-40 (or more?) autocross runs in a day, wear the equivalent to the better part of a regular local autocross season.

Maintaining enough heat for reliable grip shouldn't be a problem. I would recommend Summer tires over snow tires.

Snow tires are generally a little softer than all-seasons and and would wear quickly with repeated autocross use, yet not be very grippy. They have tall tread that blocks will squirm and feather with hard use.
