The rest of the story...

Post by markyf » Sun Jan 17, 2010 10:46 pm

Somehow Ted finds out about almost all "skroo-ups" and makes sure to share the embarassment with everyone at the Awards Banquet.
I almost lost my truck, trailer and future race car in our recent snowstorm. An hour or so after it started snowing Saturday night Jan 2 and well before any plows were out on the county roads, I somehow thought I could still make it th last 1/2 mile home. I really didn't realize it was so slick. What the pictures don't show is that the hill is pretty steep and you have to turn a slow 90 degree corner right at the bottom of the hill. (The hill was completely snow covered the night before, I swear.) When I didn't make it up the hill pulling the trailer with 4-wheel drive, the tires started spinning and the truck/trailer started sliding downhill immediately, with a mind of their own. I tried my hardest, but I lost all control and you can see where I ended up. As it was happening in slow motion, it was really quiet and smooth. The worse part was I thought I was going sideways over the edge in the truck and rolling down the embankment. I even had time to start rolling the window up before I went over the edge because I could see all the brush and trees coming at me. Luckily it stopped at the last minute, somehow. After 3 wreckers and using a tree for one of the tow cables, we got it out basically without a scratch.

I hope this works, here is a link to some pictures that might help explain it.

Shh You didn't hear this from me ......but two men, who looked a lot like Bud and Opie, were seen dumping water on that slope just before you and that fast car got there.

I knew I shouldn't have let those guys know that I was hauling that car home! People will stoop to anything to win those coveted trophies. I hope they don't find out about my remote cone toppler. I call it the Toppler Effect.

What is it with you, black cars and earthen embankments? :P

I heard about the new car (Opie can't keep a secret) but I didn't hear about this.

Sheesh....

You might be from the Ozarks if...

...You've driven a Firebird into a ravine without sitting in the driver's seat.

Looks like everything came through shiny side up!

A cone toppler? Hmph. I'm going to invent a remote device to make toppled cones stand back up.

I'm calling it the Coneagra System.

Jim,
You know you're from the SCCA when you can drive a Firebird into a ravine and back out without any damage.

Korry,
Do you think Firebirds are any good at rallycrossing?

Bud,
I know you could sell a Coneagra to Opie and one to Korry. I wouldn't need one myself. But wouldn't that make the cones stand up all night? Opie probably thinks it's some kind of farm implement.

Yes, I believe with a few tweaks they could make the rally car guys poop themselves.

WOW!!
You convinced me to go back and conquer that ravine! Just a couple redneck mods and I'll be there.
