2013 RallyCross Nationals - Tulsa

Post by JimR » Mon Sep 16, 2013 5:14 pm

The 2013 SCCA RallyCross Nationals are in Tulsa for one more time, so make it count. OMRSCCA has historically done very well at this event, so don't miss it.

2013 SCCA RallyCross Nationals
Friday, October 4 through Sunday, Oct 6, 2013

Competition is on Saturday and Sunday. Check-in, tech inspection, class inspection, and starting order draw is on Friday. There will be two competition courses on Saturday, and one competition course on Sunday. For a few extra bucks, you can also get some runs on a NEOkla-hosted practice course on Friday.

The 2014 Nationals will be in Nebraska, so this is your closest opportunity to compete in a big show. It's very approachable for novices and veterans alike. Bring a car and have fun.

OMRSCCA has taken an awful lot of hardware home from this event in the past. We need to show some numbers again.

Registration closes in two weeks.

It is beginning to look like I will have to miss this one.

Not particularly happy, here.

TEH EDITZ:

OK, bit happier: Looks like I can make it to RX Nats! Knock on Wood that nothing comes up between now & then....

Registration closes tomorrow.

The SCCA just added a new contingency sponsor today: Summit Racing. If you win first or second in a class of 5+ entrants, you get a $50 gift certificate. They will have decals on-site. All you have to do is register on ams.scca.com and print out a claim form to bring. An easy one!

Sam Henry won first in Prepared RWD, and Martin Henry took second. Sam's reign continues, and he'll no doubt enjoy both the Mazda contingency and free GoPro for winning.

Doug Largent was one spot outside the Stock RWD trophies. There were three sessions over the weekend, and the first one was muddy due to overnight rains. No one had any traction, and the light Miatas built a slight edge that was hard to overcome.

Micah Nickelson, who runs with us on occasion, pulled down a third place trophy in Stock FWD. The two guys in front of him were really fast, so that was a good chase.

I was edged out of the Prepared FWD championship fair and square, so no regrets on taking second in a tough class. I was closing on Chang until the end of the event, when he really turned up the heat and ran away from me. I was down a second going into the last run, but he pulled out a raw time that I couldn't match and cleared me by 2.5 seconds overall. Ignoring the two seconds added by the cone from Saturday, the margin would have been 0.585 seconds over nearly 11 minutes of cumulative competition time. It was a close and fun fight for the PF lead.

Interestingly, my car won trophies in both the Prepared and Modified categories. A fast competitor from Utah broke his car during his first run and borrowed mine to take third place in MF.
