Post Season Charity Fundraiser Solo Event - "Kill All Tires!"

Post by flogger » Sat Oct 29, 2016 9:21 am

Info can be found on the omrscca.org home page

This event is for OMR members only and MANDATORY preregistration is now open to all OMR members.

Note that times are different than normal and that daylight savings time ends 11/6 @ 2:00AM.

Funds raised will benefit the Crowder College Trucking School's student fund and also provide scholarships for some of our future Street Survival students.
We've already received a pledge from a member who can't attend the event (thanks, Bud). If you want to contribute towards these worthy causes, you can coordinate it with our treasurer, Matt Longpine, via the "Regional Contacts" list off the "Main Menu" of our homepage. Thanks in advance for any and all contributions, but we don't have a 501(c)3 for you to reference.

I volunteered to do course setup, and my rough draft (subject to improvement) passed with Scott. The idea is to have a morning session and an afternoon session.

The morning will have two concurrently running small practice courses. One will be a transition course with a slalom and some offsets (timed), and the other will be a sweeper course (likely untimed). Jump between them as you choose. One car at a time on each course.

Image
Red: transition course - run the loop either clockwise or CCW (your choice), then bear right at the end to finish.
Blue: sweeper course - practice trail braking, looking ahead, setup changes, early/late apexing, etc. Short enough to hopefully get every one a lot of back-to-back comparisons and practice.

The afternoon will have a combined full course roughly based on the practice courses. If we get tired of that, we'll flip the direction and adjust to make it more fun. Should be able to have multiple cars on course.

Provided everyone who registered shows up, drivers can split into three groups. One will be working and the other two will be driving at any given time. Basically, we'll have a safety steward, timing equipment minder, starter, and some cone chasers with red flags. At set times, we'll quickly rotate the workers. The gate will be closed to non-participants once we get going.

You will still have to show up on time for registration, tech, and driver's meeting. No classing or results, though. Anyone who drives up to the start line during the event will need to be a pre-registered entrant in a tech-inspected car.

OMRSCCA regulars worked hard this year, so reward yourself with high fashion, too.

A swag update from Scott reports that we will be selling the remaining supply of OMR gear at Sunday's charity autocross.

OMRSCCA lined jackets - $45
(2) L
(2) XL
(1) XXL

The jackets were a unique challenge for the printer, so re-issues are unlikely. After their debut at last weekend's Tombstone Rally, only a few remain. Rare, warm, and fiercely stylish.

OMRSCCA T-shirts - $15
(1) 2XL Red
(1) XL Red
(1) Ladies XL Charcoal
(2) Ladies M Purple
(2) Ladies M Charcoal

Need something to wear under your jacket? We have just the thing: OMR t-shirts. Guys, don't be shy about the ladies' cuts, either. They can flatter in all the right places.

As a Charity Event we would like to thank everyone who made it out to raise some money for the Street Survival and Trucking school scholarships. A special nod to both Bud Weeks who gave a donation and didn't even plan on attending the event, and Gregg McNabb for making the largest donation of the day, thank you both.

Honestly the weather was great, the courses were great, and it seemed like everyone got plenty of runs!! Even I got many runs/rides w/o bringing a car down so thanks to all that made sure I had a good time.

Lots of hands make light work and we seemed to have a great volunteer crew willing to help this weekend, everyone really pitched in for cleanup especially. Even though they still worked throughout the day Gregg took care of tech for us, poor Jason M. spent all morning setting up all three timing systems to get one that worked, then Sam and Kent (and probably others) gave some course help to get us back up and going. These guys definitely went above and beyond to make this event work so smoothly.

Of course (<-- pun intended) JimR did a terrific job setting up the course and coming up with the basic structure of how the event would run, there were several of us that might have been scratching our heads in the morning of what exactly was going on but once we got the hang of what the event was it was great, easily the best day of autocross I have had in a long time. Thank you JimR for the huge effort that you put in and all of the ideas you had.

Speaking of ideas please check the other thread for details of our Monthly Meeting Tues. Nov 8th at Big Whiskeys on Battlefield, we are always looking for member input and for those that would like to volunteer to help make events work. I have a couple to share tomorrow (hint, our new software is now here and we figured out the bad component on our faulty timers) and if we were to have an event like this in the future we should now have the capability to have Timing and Scoring running on both courses with no more workers then yesterday morning. The new software can really change the way we run events so if you would like to be in on the ground floor of the changes as they happen, please try to make these meetings during the off season.
