2017 Autocrosser of the Year - PAX points standings

Post by flogger » Sun Jul 16, 2017 6:39 am

Through event #5 (which means we only have 4 events completed due to event #2 being rescheduled to October because of flooding).

Unofficial and not proofread and all that...

Position Name Points
1. Mark Foley 34
2. Kent Willer 30
3. Sam Henry 27
4. Opie Viets 19
5. Brad Holliday 18
6. Bud Weeks 16
t7. Paul Smith 11
t7. Charlie Holt 11
t9. Jim Rowland 10
t9. Gregg McNabb 10
11. Scott Woosley 9
12. Jason Mulkey 8
t13. Thomas Wenrich 1
t13. Glen Moore 1

Only OMR members are included in this list.
In perusing the results so far this season and putting this standings list together, I've also noticed that there are a number of OMR members with individual event results just barely out of the top ten. The tiniest improvement by them will have them starting to accumulate PAX points, too.

With 4 seasonal points events to go it'll be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Did you misspell "Willer"?

The other thing I noticed is that we've been increasing the depth and breadth of the driver talent within the region. Last year's end of year results required 7 points for 10th place. We've only had 4 events so far this year (including the tough to score points in MiDiv and season opener) and t9 is already at 10 points and 11th place requires 9 points. A number of drivers are turning up the wick. There are also some very good class battles - notably in DS, FS and STP and SSM.

As of 9/19
Unofficial as I'm not the one technically responsible for calculating this or bestowing the award at the end of the year, but here's what my spreadsheet says:

Name/ total/ Best 6/ rank/ # events w/points
Kent Willer 48 48 1 6
Jason Mulkey 35 35 T2 4
Mark Foley 35 35 T2 4
Bud Weeks 34 34 4 5
Charlie Holt 32 32 5 4
Sam Henry 31 31 6 4
Opie Viets 19 19 7 3
Brad Holliday 18 18 T8 2
Jim Rowland 18 18 T8 3
Paul Smith 11 11 10 2
Frank Davis 10 10 T11 1
Gregg McNabb 10 10 T11 1
Scott Woosley 9 9 13 2
Dylan Douglas 7 7 14 2
Don Wilson 6 6 15 2
John Guyll 5 5 16 1
Matt Longpine 3 3 17 1
Jeffrey Moore 2 2 T18 1
Stan Bell 2 2 T18 1
Glen Moore 1 1 20 1
Thomas Wenrich1 1 1 20 1

This is a remarkably close season, with 6 likely contenders and 9 who have not been mathematically eliminated with only 2 events left to go.

As of 10/10

Name total Best 6 rank # events w/points
Kent Willer 60 56 1 7
Mark Foley 50 50 2 5
Bud Weeks 42 42 t3 6
Charlie Holt 42 42 t3 5
Jason Mulkey 38 38 5 5
Sam Henry 36 36 6 5
Opie Viets 21 21 7 4
Brad Holliday 18 18 8 2
Jim Rowland 19 19 9 4
Paul Smith 11 11 10 2
Frank Davis 10 10 t11 1
Gregg McNabb 10 10 t11 1
Scott Woosley 9 9 13 2
Dylan Douglas 7 7 14 2
Don Wilson 6 6 15 2
John Guyll 5 5 t16 1
Thomas Wenrich 5 5 t16 2
Matt Longpine 3 3 18 1
Jeffrey Moore 2 2 t19 1
Stan Bell 2 2 t19 1
Glen Moore 1 1 21 1

We've still got 3 theoretical possible winners for Autocrosser of the year going in to our final event of the season. Bud has 6 finishes with points so far, so if even if wins the final event, his 15 additional points would replace the 2 points he collected for his 9th place finish in event#1, bringing his total for the season to 55, or 1 less than what Kent already has. Kent has finished in the top ten in all 7 events so far, so one of his 7th place (4 points) results has already been replaced with a better result. Kent has one more 7th place finish to discard. Everybody else has 5 or fewer top ten finishes. This is really, really close between Kent and Mark. If either one of them win the next event, they close the other one out and also win the whole season.

Wow!

This is getting interesting! :D

I wonder what the course designer for the next event is going to do?

Punt?
Google tells me an S2000 is ~69" wide and a '99 Firebird is ~75" wide. Sorry, but a 72" gate is not allowed.

Seriously, though, for everyone else - Kent knows full well not to make a course that's biased for a particular type of car. That's one of the requirements/recommendations for being an SCCA course designer, and it's something that we ensure that we practice in OMR events.
