2017 OMR SCCA SOLO Event #7 7/17/2017 At Crowder College

Post by flogger » Fri Sep 15, 2017 1:59 pm

Preregistration has been open for quite some time, and closes tonight at midnight. Bud will be course designer, and the weather forecast looks good. It's crazy to think we've got 3 more regular season and one post season event still to go this year. :-)

What a great event!

Sept 17, not July🤔

Props to the OMR crew that made the decision to wait for the first heat. I was ready to go, but thankfully we did not have folks on course when the lightning was hitting next to the lot.

Bud, thank you for the course that was different than any "normal" course we have had lately. I enjoyed the course thoroughly, and it got my blood pumping for sure.

Congrats to Charlie for his first PAX win!

Fast driving by Bud and Jason in the wet stuff, that was a blast to drive in!

Looking forward to some dry weather for the next event

Oops. I would have sworn I edited that when I copy/pasted the original thread title. Maybe my brain just thought all those 7s looked cool. :?

Hey Everyone,

Well, my feet have just now dried out and my shoes may be dry by the weekend. To those who left before runs started---and I can understand the frustration of having to wait for who-knows-how-long for the lightning to clear---you missed a very fun event. It was worth the long pause. Not taking a chance on getting someone toasted was the right call.

In spite of the rain and all, I had a blast. I've heard compliments and criticisms about the course, and I appreciate both. I think it is true that it was hard to see the crossovers, and if we ever do such a thing again I will try to figure out how to mark the crossovers differently to make them more readable. Marking the course with flour will certainly help. Yup, a dry course would have been even more fun.

Thanks again to all the workers who run registration, timing and scoring, tech, and safety. Once we started running it went like clockwork. Also thanks to Sam for the great job announcing the drama during the second heat when the track was drying and drivers were setting their fast times, and when top PAX was very much up in the air. Congrats to Charlie Holt for winning PAX.

Speaking of PAX, who is in the running for Autocrosser of the Year? We've had four different OMR drivers win top PAX this year, and one out-of-region driver. I've done the math and here below are the drivers who have a mathematical chance and their points totals.

Kent Willer, 54 points, 6 events
Bud Weeks, 41 points, 6 events
Jason Mulkey, 40 points, 5 events
Mark Foley, 39 points, 4 events
Charlie Holt, 39 points, 6 events
Sam Henry, 37 points, 6 events
Jim Rowland, 25 points, 5 events

I included the number of events because OMR bylaws allow each driver to use points from his best 6 events. So if you have 8 events, you can drop your two worst ones. If you have only a total of 6 at the end of the year, then you don't get to drop any even if you have a bad finish in one.

So, anything can happen here and it will be fun both to try to win as well as watching what happens. Two more events! Who will be the 2017 AOTY?

Since I run in D Street I also calculated the standings in D Street. All four drivers have at least one class win.

Bud Weeks, 66 points, 5 events
Jason Mulkey, 59 points, 5 events
Jim Rowland, 57 points, 5 events
Brad Holliday, 48 points, 4 events

Anyone can still be class champion.

Looking forward to October.

Bud

Bud,

We're getting very different tallies towards the autocrosser of the year award. You might want to check my recent post on the "2017 Autocrosser of the Year - PAX points standings" thread.

Awesome year points wise - both PAX and DS.

Also, great course last Sunday. I'd love to attack a similar course in the dry.

Yes, I see we have a difference. Am I correct that points are awarded this way?
1st, 15
2nd, 12
3rd, 10
4th, 9
5th, 8
6th, 7
7th, 6
8th, 5
9th, 4
10th, 3
11th, 2
12th and below, 1 point

This is the way I remember the bylaws; maybe my memory is faulty. I'll look at my figures again.

Close, but it's 15,12,10,8,6,5,4,3,2,1 points for positions 1-10 respectively.

The point allocation hasn't changed since 2015 (the most recent set of OMR Solo Sups posted to this website) - here: http://omrscca.org/regional-documents

I stand corrected. I now agree with Scott.

Here, restated in this post, are the contenders who have a mathematical chance for AOTY, their points and their number of events.

Kent Willer, 48 points, 6 events
Mark Foley, 35 points, 4 events
Jason Mulkey, 35 points, 5 events
Bud Weeks, 34 points, 6 events
Charlie Holt, 32 points, 6 events
Sam Henry, 31 points, 6 events
Opie Viets, 19 points, 3 events
Jim Rowland, 18 points, 6 events
Brad Holliday, 18 points, 4 events

In D Street the standings only change slightly.

Bud Weeks, 66 points, 5 events
Jason Mulkey, 58 points, 5 events
Jim Rowland, 57 points, 5 events
Brad Holliday, 47 points, 4 events

October is still going to be fun!

Bud
