Looking at the 73 timed runs recorded from last year the non-Easter event seemed OK however with a week till the event the point is irrelevant. If this discussion/poll and these proposed changes were brought 2-3 weeks ago then they might hold some merit.

Respectfully, in reference to any religous day - that is and should only be considered as personal beliefs thus it is up to the person to decide if they wish attend one event or another if it falls on a day they deem religous or sacred. When completing a schedule for such a recreation as this, you cannot be bound to anything outside of this sport when looking at dates for the events. If they happen to conflict then it goes back to the person to decide and if they chose to use their free will.

I too may miss a couple of Saturday events this year because they coincide with days I am scheduled to work however it is my choice to deem them worthy enough to make the effort to attend or not.
The history of the Mother's Day creation in the United States, occurred in a small city of West Virginia, in 1905. A girl named Anna Jarvis, with some friends, had the idea to start the movement as a way to honor their beloved mothers. However, the first official celebration was given on April 26, 1910, when the governor of West Virginia, William E. Glasscock, put Mother's Day on the calendar of commemorative dates of that state. In 1914 the celebration was unified in all the country, being commemorated always in as the second Sunday of May. A year later, nearly every state officially marked the day.

-------------------------------------------------

The creation of a national day for Dads began back in the 1900s when a grateful daughter wanted to express her deep appreciation for her own father. A gentleman by the name of William Smart, a civil war veteran, was widowed when his wife died in childbirth. Mr. Smart raised his six children on a rural farm in eastern Washington State. When Sonora Louise Smart Dodd, one of Mr. Smart's children, was grown she wanted to show her appreciation for her father. He had shown her a great love and strength in raising her and her siblings as a single parent. So, in 1909, she proposed a day to honor her father in June (the month of her father's birth).

The very first Fathers' Day followed on June 19, 1910 in Spokane, Washington. In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge showed support of this becoming a national holiday. However, it wasn't until 1966 when President Lyndon Johnson officially proclaimed Fathers' Day a national holiday to be celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of June.

Harry C. Meek, president of the Lions Club in Chicago, was also a component in establishing Fathers' Day. He gave several speeches around the United States expressing the need for a day to honor our fathers. In 1920 the Lions Clubs of America presented him with a gold watch, with the inscription "Originator of Fathers' Day".
See just another day like Valentine's Day, created on a whim of self need and commercialized into something greater than it is. But I guess it is better for everyone to only have to "honor" their Mom or Dad only one day a year rather than the whole year. :?

ps: As Jonathan stated at the banquet, I may not cook well but I can stir the hell out of that pot.

hmmm. Honor their beloved mothers and deep appreciation for fathers. Yet we can do the fathers day one the day before Fathers day yet not the Mothers day one? As far as Easter yeah, its obviously too late to change it now. I was never going to make it an issue in the first place but since the issue of dates came up....I did. I simply wont show up. I hold no one in any different regard than I did before this thread. I was just making my opinion known about the Easter autocross. Also pointing out we went out of our way last year to avoid doing the autocross on Fathers Day. Why not do the same for Mothers Day?

I can see your point.. However lol

The reason the schedule is like this is because my calendar didn’t have any special dates labeled when I made the schedule. I just know the birthdays of my nieces and nephews so I stayed away from those. And my sisters and brothers b-days. And basically everything else was pot shot random :o

If you must know the truth lol
That’s why I'm offering the change or the chance to vote. I was totally random on picking the dates save for just wanting it not to conflict with other regions and road racing.

I am neither offended or discouraged by this conversation. If anyone has a problem with my dart board date picking method ....... ;)

I see where you are coming from Jonathan. I believe you feel the same about it as I do, whereas no matter when you do it for its going to conflict with someones schedule. You can keep the dates where they are as far as Im concerned, I plan the dates I can go and cant go autocross based on the first or second draft you put out. so dont go changing them now on my account. There just will be a couple I wont be at. No big deal. Im not there for the 100% trophy. I just happened to be able to make all of the events last year. It was cool, but nothing to get upset about if it doesnt happen. Ill still be there at as many as possible.

Jonathan,
It used to be a tradition in the US that auto races were not held on Mothers
day out of respect for Mothers. I think that it was more due to the respect
of a Mother in regards to the dangers in Auto Racing. In today's day of
Marketing and safety the concept has all, but gone away. Have it if you
want? My opinion.

Rick

That said.

The mother’s day autocross will be rescheduled to the weekend BEFOR mother’s day. The 6th of May

Make a note on your calendars and spread the word!

And those who wonder why Rick’s comment made me want to change the date?

I'm a nostalgia freak :P I like the old school way better than the new school.... respect is something long since lost in this world.
There's been a lot of posts since ^^ this one so I wanna make sure....it is going to be on the 6th? I noticed that the date still shows it on Mother's Day in the Event calendar section so please clarify for me. Thanks.

Yes, Clarification would be nice.

The 6th or the 13th?

The 6th would kinda blow since the Pro Solos are happening in WR that weekend and I know of atleast two regulars that won't be there on the 6th. Plus those of us budget restricted folks might have a time gathering the jack to attend after returning from the NT at WR the weekend before even if we don't have any broken peices.

So what is the word from our Solo Director???

For the record, I'll be there if it's the 6th (hope it is since it will be my first). I definately won't be able to make it the Mother's Day weekend though.

My vote is to NOT have it on Mother's Day, but don't move it to the May 6 Walnut Ridge Pro Solo date.

For the record, I don't like having events on family type holidays, like Easter and Mother's Day. However, Father's Day is fine because I can probably do what I want on that day.

Poll says the date will NOT be changed.

Sorry to those who this conflicts with plans :(
I'll make sure next year we stay away from any family orientated dates and major holidays for sure. No more dart board schedules!

On a side note we need about 2 more spare solo safety stewards in our region!!!
