Solo II manager

Post by budweeks » Wed Sep 19, 2007 8:54 pm

Hi Guys,

This is my first post so be gentle. I echo what Jim said about a number of people, two at least, sharing duties of the Solo II manager. Jonathan has done a great job at a difficult and sometimes thankless task. There is a lot to take care of, and it's hard work, so you and the rest of us can have fun. Other regions have co-managers so each person can rest and enjoy the event (or stay home) from time to time. I appreciate Jim stepping up (and Ed too, did I miss anyone?) to set up the courses that we run.

By the way, I have talked to the SAE coordinators at PSU about putting on an autocross here in Pittsburg sometime next year if the university agrees. We have a decent sized lot on campus that we have never been able to use. They now have a Formual SAE car and can see the benefit of having a place to run it. Keep your fingers crossed.

Also by the way, I am going to autocross at a Wichita Region event on Sept. 30 at an airport between Winfield and Arkansas City. It is called the Endurocross because it is three laps on what I think is a big course. You only get two runs but they are surely long ones. If anyone wants to go, check out the Wichita Region website.

I would like to help on a regular basis but being far away it makes it harder for the weekly tasks.

Now Bud I used to be on the SAE team at OSU and since it is a one off event, I would be more than happy to help out with that event. Those things are a blast, we had a wonderful car the year I drove, ended up lapping everyone in the enduro, I blew up out car....oops, not my fault, injection was too lean. Probably why I do it 60 seconds at a time now......

Welcome Sir Bud. :D

We have had a couple other designers as well. On the events where there is no plan, I like to get the folks involved by throwing out cones and giving them sections to do so they connect with other sections and generally it comes out pretty good. Makes the whole course design thing less imposing if you are only taking care of one section. Hopefully some of these impromptu designers will be more inclined to design a whole course.

I really, really think we need to get more local OMR guys excited to attend other region's events to see how the other folks do things. There are good and bad points to every way of doing things and maybe, just maybe we can get OMR in shape with more good than bad. :D
