Road Racing radios - basic questions

As explained in the previous thread, my first foray into wheel-to-wheel will hopefully be next year in a ChumpCar event. We will need communication between driver and at least one pit member. I have no clue what I need to know about this, but these races last 10-24 hours, and communication will be paramount. We do not have any equipment, so if anyone knows of any good deals or has something they are selling, let me know. Any advice?
