Selling 1973 Mazda RX-3 CAR IS SOLD!

Post by budweeks » Sun Mar 29, 2009 4:02 pm

CAR IS SOLD! I am needing to part with my '73 RX-3. This car has a long and rich history with Ozark Mountain Region members. It was originally built by Chuck Leighton in the early '80's, then road raced in IT and autocrossed by Kurt Gibson. Then it was autocrossed by Masa Asanuma, Mark Rountree, and me, all OMR members.

So, here's the details:
-Full cage, welded in
-Fresh red clearcoat, garage kept
-12A motor from RX-7
-Racing Beat aluminum flywheel
-4 speed trans. from RX-7
-Rear axel housing is RX-3, with limited slip and 3.91 gears
-Racing Beat header, 2.25" pipe and turbo muffler
-Hawke pads and shoes, works great for autocross
-Full interior, all instruments work, including the clock!
-Car lowered about 2", front bar 1", rear bar 5/8"

This car has proven to have a bullet-proof drivetrain. It is also surprisingly fast. The motor has not been ported, but the header and carb tweaks help a lot. It could be competitive in CSP with a few upgrades. Drive it home.

Extras that go with the car:
-set of 4 Panasports, 13x7
-set of 5 Enkei wheels, gold centers, 13x5.5
-a 12A motor from a RX-7
-a 5-speed trans. from a RX-7
-a RX-3 rear axel, open, 4.44 gears
-a RX-7 rear axel, limited slip and disc brake, 3.91 gears
-a strut tower brace
-an "A" frame for a rear suspension upgrade
-a front cross member (stock) for a suspension upgrade
-boxes of extra parts
-9 Yokohama 008R 205/60-13 tires, surprisingly good for auto-X
-4 Bridgestone 13" RE71 street tires

The downside:
-the shocks are toast
-it needs new caster/camber plates in front
-it needs some kind of panard bar arrangement in back

Car is tagged, insured, and driveable.
It has a SCCA logbook.

Price: I'd like to get $4500, or best offer.
I can e-mail pictures.

E-mail me at gmweeks@cox.net or call at 629-249-0870.

These things are popular IT road racing cars.

Rotary engines are cheap, durable, and reliable, although they are awful to listen to.

IT cars are the least modified, and generally most economical, production based racing cars within SCCA.

Somebody with road racing aspirations might want to consider your car Bud as it would be a blast or SOLO and Road Race.
