New kid on the block

Post by p_ms3 » Thu Apr 01, 2010 9:35 pm

Hi all.
I attended the EVO School on Sat. What a blast!

I actually bought a helmet today. My intention was just to see what was available and to check price and fit...I guess I'm hooked now.

My questin is about car numbers. How does one obtain one?
I know my ms3 is in the DS class. So the convention would be ###DS or ###DSL? What size numbers/letters are used? I saw "painter's tape" used Sat, what else is acceptable, that will not mar the finish?

Thanks for the help.

We use magnetics (but had a "D'OH!" moment and forgot them Saturday):

They've got a package-deal: 3 numbers & 3 letters for like 50-odd bucks.

One trick is to hit the area with some Meguire's Quick-Detailer or Honda spray-polish just before putting them on, helps prevent scratches. Also, inspect the backside before each application. When putting on/taking off often (like the "L" or the "1" for a co-drive) position the ends of the characters against a body-line, to make it easy to "peel off" instead of sliding them across the surface.

now if you're wondering what number you can use, see the sticky in timing & scoring for driver numbers http://www.omrscca.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=878

and talk to our solo chair, matt longpine, about getting one of your own.

welcome aboard.

Sean is a tulsa area autocrosser, you just might see him at the MIDIV in neosho in april. I spent around $25 for 4 numbers & 6 letters, had them in a couple days.

That's a good choice, too - couldn't remember the website.

I have to push em cause they sponsor me. TFBDesigns made autocross numbers specifically at my request. They're fantastic. I could go 400 mph and they wouldn't come off.

I've actually watched many numbers fly off cars, I guess it's not a huge deal, if you don't catch it though the time keeper might be confused where 17 went and why there's 2 7's, lol.
