Looks Like Fun!

I'm considering joining you guys this next season. I finally picked up a car that has controllable power. I was always scared to bring out my FI cars. I bought a little Porsche 996C2 Cab. I'll keep an eye on here for the next event.
Thanks,
Shane

Shane,

I second Justin's welcome! Although I've been an SCCA member for a decade, I'm new to this region. I've found it to be full of nice, helpful people. Come to the first event of the year and introduce yourself as a newbie to us old-timers and we'll make sure to show you the ropes. Hope to see you then.

And don't be afraid to ask for a ride along. Witnessing first hand other people's driver style will help you develop your own. (Plus it is quite fun.)

Appreciate the kind welcome guys. I'll take you up on the ride along. From your videos, figuring out where the hell to go looks like the hardest part. I think the wife wants to come out and do some laps in her Cayenne Turbo. If she beats me, I'll never hear the end of it. LOL

shane let me add my belated welcome.

just a thought, you might want to drive the wife's car instead, if you can't stand losing to her. my 00 996 c4 is geared too low in first, too high in second, and corresponding to the too high, doesn't have a lot of grunt til 4000 rpm or so. also quite pushy, you really have to brake early. the c4 drives a lot like a fwd car, without the pull-me-out-of-corners, as under hard accel the drive shifts to mostly rear, that is, worst of both worlds. it's a hoot on the road or faster venues, but not so much in autox. there's a better than even chance there's a skill issue here, tho.

hope your c2 works differently, but would anticipate similar understeer.

welcome again and good luck.

Thanks Stan. Yep. Thing lacks punch in the low end and has a wide ratio difference in the first two gears. I have played with tire pressure to some success with the understeer issue. I will probably have the same results as you. I would be talking out of my ass if I said any different. I am interested in the difference in the C2 and 4 on the short course. Look forward to it.

I just read the rules. It says SUVs can not compete. Is there any grey area there? I would really like to see what the Cayenne can do. I honestly think it will put down a faster time than the 911. In sport/race mode, it lowers to car height. It has good torque as the turbos spool up pretty quick.

My apologies. You said cayenne, I thought cayman. You must have thought I was nuts with that advice.

Agree besides the potential for falling over sideways might well be entertaining. Bring the cayenne out to the rally cross instead. Either way, glad to have you

Likely the worst that can happen is a muddy car and a Nomination for a particularly left-handed-compliment of an Award....

I cracking up at the thought of it a bit, but...
It comes with 500hp. It has no chance of a rollover, and it will out corner 95% of anything on the road with a baby seat in back. I honestly think it might beat both of our 911s at any race of any kind. Would make for good video?

You might be surprised at what is able get up on two wheels.

I've seen far lower / lighter vehicles than that scare the crap out of everyone on site.
