2010 Midwest Division SCCA Convention report

Post by JimR » Sun Feb 21, 2010 5:27 pm

The annual Midwest Division SCCA convention was held in Kansas City this weekend. Curtis and I represented Ozark Mountain Region, and I came back with a lot of notes to digest from the seminars and discussions. Here's the buzz in very brief detail.

News:
At the SCCA National Convention last month, the 2009 Neosho Divisional was runner-up for SCCA Divisional of the Year, just edged out by Central Division. Not bad! For everyone who helped with the event, your work didn't escape notice.

OMR participation:
We donated $100 to the SCCA Foundation, whose efforts include funding the SCCA Street Survival program for real teen driver training. OMR also contributed two free regional entries and two free Neosho divisional entries to the convention prize drawing.

Brainstorming OMR opportunities:
  • Explore possibility of hosting a Street Survival school.
  • Explore opportunities to host a RallyCross (think autocross, unpaved). This is the SCCA's smallest, but youngest demographic. Four MiDiv regions are slowly, but surely growing their programs. What can we learn?
  • Polish our online presence and attract more participants with simple, no-cost tools and information. Kyle Rohde led an excellent discussion about so many things we could be doing.
  • Simple organizational tricks to streamline our autocross events. Documentation, training, novice engagement, etc.
  • Acquiring entrant feedback beyond forums, word of mouth, and board meetings. How can we collect fresh ideas and improvements from a wider variety of participants?
